Withings BodyScan 2 vs Body Scan, and what a weekly scan adds
What Withings BodyScan 2 reads that the 2023 Body Scan doesn't, what each costs, what the FDA has cleared and where a weekly whole-body scan fits.

Withings makes smart scales that read a lot more than your weight. Its newest, BodyScan 2, went on sale in the US on July 15, and the 2023 Body Scan is still sold. Here's what each one reads, as Withings describes them in September 2026, and where a weekly scan like Soma Axon fits beside them.
What BodyScan 2 reads
BodyScan 2 costs $599.95. You stand barefoot on the glass and hold a handle that pulls out of it, with electrodes in both. Withings says it reads body composition by bioimpedance spectroscopy, sending a very small current at 13 frequencies across six zones of the body. A 30-second Daily Scan gives your weight, fat, muscle and water, visceral fat, heart rate and vascular age. A 90-second Longevity Scan, meant for once a week, adds a 6-lead ECG, blood oxygen, Heart Age and a nerve response score.
Heart Age and Glucose Resilience need a Withings+ subscription, at $9.95 a month.
What the 2023 Body Scan reads
Body Scan, the 2023 model, now sells for $499.95. Withings says it reads body composition by zone with multi-frequency bioimpedance, along with your heart rate, vascular age, a nerve health score from your feet and a 6-lead ECG. It doesn't have the blood oxygen reading or the weekly Longevity Scan of BodyScan 2. Withings also sells BodyFit, at $279.95, which reads body composition by zone without an ECG.
What the FDA has cleared
On both scales, the 6-lead ECG and its AFib detection are cleared by the FDA. Withings says everything else is for general wellness, and that BodyScan 2 isn't a medical device for diagnostic purposes.
At CES in January, Withings announced a hypertension risk notification for BodyScan 2, pending FDA clearance. The FDA's database showed no decision on it by September. Withings also lists Blood Pressure Insights on BodyScan 2, which it describes as a wellness insight that doesn't measure your blood pressure.
A scale and a pod
A scale lives at home, and that's its strength: you can step on it every morning in 30 seconds. Soma Axon is a pod we're still building, and a place you'll go to once a week. It'll read body composition the same basic way, with a very small electrical current while you stand on its plate with your hands on its grips. It'll add photos of your skin all the way around, balance, grip strength, EEG and thermal imaging, along with your heart and breathing, and the light, the positions and the instrument will stay the same every week.
The Soma app runs on iPhone and reads Apple Health between visits. Withings says its app can export your readings to Apple Health, and you choose which ones.
Soma won't diagnose anything. It's a general wellness product and it isn't a medical device.
