Terms of Use

Soma is a general wellness product. It is not medical care.

• Soma is not a medical device. It is not cleared or approved by the FDA.
• Soma is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
• Every number Soma shows you, including a biological age estimate, is an estimate. We show it together with its uncertainty.
• Do not start, stop, or change any medication or treatment because of something Soma shows you. Talk to a qualified clinician about your health.
• Using Soma does not create a clinician-patient relationship between you and Soma.
• Soma’s estimates come from wellness signals, not clinical tests, and they can be wrong.

If you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Do not rely on Soma.

You must be at least 18 years old and located in the United States to use Soma. Soma is not directed to children, and you may not use it if you are under 18.

Each account is for one person. Do not share your account with anyone else, and only add your own data to Soma.

By using Soma, you confirm that you meet these requirements. These Terms apply wherever you access the Services, but today we offer them only in the United States.

Soma is in beta. It is a pre-release product: features can change, break, or disappear without notice, and we do not promise that any feature, or the Services as a whole, will always be available.

We may limit access to the beta, including by waitlist, invitation, or capacity.

Soma is free during the beta. If we introduce a paid feature later, we will show you its price and ask for your agreement before you are charged for it.

Some parts of Soma work without an account: the Today screen runs on your phone and needs none. History sync needs an account.

Creating an account needs an email address. A name is optional, and sign-in may be offered through Sign in with Apple. You choose whether to add profile details such as birth date, sex, height, and weight.

Give us accurate information when you create your account, and keep it up to date. Keep your sign-in credentials confidential, and tell us at legal@somalabs.me if you believe someone else has access to your account. You are responsible for activity that happens through your account.

If we have reason to believe your account information is false, or that you no longer meet the requirements in Who Can Use Soma, we may suspend or close your account.

You can close your account at any time. Our Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data after you do.

You own the data you put into Soma: your Apple Health data, any notes or mood entries you write, and any profile details you add. We do not.

To run and improve the Services, you give us a limited license to use your data the way our Privacy Policy describes. We do not use it beyond that.

This license ends when your data is deleted. After a deletion request, we remove your data from live systems within 30 days, and copies in backups roll off within 90 days. We may keep what the law requires us to keep.

Soma’s computed results are only as good as the data behind them. Their accuracy depends on your phone’s sensors, on Apple Health, and on any service you connect, none of which we control. You are responsible for the accuracy of anything you type in yourself, such as your profile details or a note.

Soma reads Apple Health data through HealthKit. Access is read-only: Soma never writes anything back to Apple Health. It only reads the data types you allow, and for sensitive types, such as reproductive health or basal body temperature, it asks separately, only when a feature needs them.

You can turn off Soma’s access to Apple Health at any time, in iOS Settings, under Health, then Data Access & Devices, then Soma.

If you connect another service, such as a wearable maker’s account, we receive the data you authorize from it, either directly or through an integration provider. You control that connection and can remove it at any time. Once you disconnect a service, we stop receiving new data from it; data we already received is handled the way our Privacy Policy describes.

Some features in Soma answer questions in plain language, using an AI model. These features are optional: you choose when to use them, and we do not turn them on for you. They are informational only: they can be wrong or incomplete, and they are not medical advice.

Any figure Soma computes for you is shown with its date, the amount of data behind it, and the version of the engine that produced it, so you can judge how much weight to give it.

Nothing an AI feature or a computed result tells you changes the Soma Is Not Medical Care section above: none of it is a diagnosis, and none of it replaces a clinician.

When you use Soma, you agree not to:

• use it for anything unlawful;
• access, or try to access, anyone else’s data without their authority;
• reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Soma, except where the law gives you that right despite this limit;
• scrape Soma, or access it with bots or other automated tools;
• test Soma’s security without our permission (if you find a vulnerability, please report it to privacy@somalabs.me, and we will work with you);
• interfere with or disrupt Soma or the servers and networks that run it;
• resell, rent, or provide Soma to others as your own service; or
• use Soma, or anything it computes, to make a decision about someone else’s employment, insurance, credit, or housing.

If you send us feedback or suggestions about Soma, you agree that we may use them freely, for any purpose, without any obligation or payment to you. You confirm that the feedback is your own, and that sharing it with us does not violate anyone else’s rights.

The names Soma, Prism, and Soma Axon, our logos, and the software, design, and content behind the Services belong to Soma Labs Inc..

We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use the Services for your own, non-commercial use. This license gives you no ownership in Soma. Do not use our names or logos to suggest we endorse or sponsor anything, without our written permission.

If you got Soma through the Apple App Store, this section applies too. It is an agreement between you and us: Apple is not a party to these Terms.

Your license to use Soma is limited to Apple-branded devices that you own or control, and it must follow the App Store’s Usage Rules. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Soma.

If Soma fails to meet a warranty we have made, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund you the purchase price, if any. Beyond that, Apple has no other warranty obligation to you regarding Soma, to the extent the law allows.

Soma Labs Inc., not Apple, is responsible for any claim relating to Soma, including product liability claims, any claim that Soma fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and any claim under consumer protection law. Soma Labs Inc., not Apple, is also responsible for any claim that Soma infringes someone else’s intellectual property.

You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must still follow any other third-party terms that apply to you, such as your carrier’s agreement, when you use Soma.

Apple, and its subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

If you use a beta build of Soma through TestFlight, Apple’s TestFlight Terms of Use apply as well.

Soma may link to, or connect with, services we do not control, including wearable makers, other integration providers, and the AI providers behind features you choose to use. We are not responsible for their content, their practices, or their availability. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and policies, not this one, and you are responsible for following those terms if you choose to connect a service.

You can stop using Soma at any time, for any reason, including by deleting the app.

We can suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms, or if we end the beta or discontinue the Services. Where we reasonably can, we will give you notice first, and our Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data after your access ends.

Some parts of these Terms outlast your use of Soma and survive ending it: our license to backup copies of your data until they roll off, Feedback, Soma’s Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnity, Resolving Disputes, Governing Law, and General Terms.

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that Soma will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any estimate it produces will be accurate.

To the extent the law allows, neither we nor you will be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from these Terms or the Services.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the Services is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

You agree to defend and indemnify us against any claim arising from your violation of these Terms or of the law.

Please read this section carefully. It affects how you and we can resolve a dispute.

Talk to us first

If you have a dispute with us, contact legal@somalabs.me first and describe the problem. We will try, in good faith, to resolve it directly with you for 60 days.

Individual arbitration

If that does not resolve the dispute, you and we agree to resolve it by binding, individual arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act, rather than in court, except as this section says otherwise.

The arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Fees are as those rules set. The hearing takes place by video, or in the county where you live, at your choice.

Either of us may instead bring a qualifying claim in small claims court. Either of us may go to court, instead of arbitration, for a claim of intellectual property infringement or to stop unauthorized access to the Services.

No class actions

You and we may bring a claim only in an individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative action, and not in a jury trial. If the law requires that a claim for public injunctive relief be heard in court, that claim goes to court, and only after the rest of the dispute has been arbitrated individually.

If this class action waiver is found unenforceable for a particular claim, that claim, and only that claim, goes to court rather than to arbitration.

Opting out

You can opt out of this Resolving Disputes section entirely. To do so, email legal@somalabs.me within 30 days of the first time you accept these Terms, with your name and a clear statement that you opt out of arbitration. If you opt out, disputes between us are resolved in court, as the Governing Law section describes.

These Terms are governed by California law, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The Federal Arbitration Act governs the Resolving Disputes section.

Any dispute that is not arbitrated is heard in the state or federal courts located in Santa Clara County, California, and you and we each consent to that location.

We may update these Terms. When we do, we update the date at the top. For a material change, we will tell you in the app, on somalabs.me, or by email, before it takes effect. Using the Services after that means you accept the change.

A change to the Resolving Disputes section never applies to a dispute you already gave us notice of. We encourage you to review these Terms from time to time.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Services.

If any part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms, that is not a waiver of it.

We may assign these Terms, for example as part of a merger or acquisition. You may not assign them. Nothing here creates a partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship between you and us.

Neither of us is liable for a delay or failure caused by something reasonably beyond our control, such as a natural disaster, a power or internet outage, or an outage at a service we rely on.

Except as the Apple App Store and TestFlight section describes, these Terms do not give anyone other than you and us the right to enforce them. The headings in these Terms are for convenience only, and do not limit or change what a section says.

You agree that we may communicate with you electronically. A notice to you goes to the email on your account or your waitlist email; a notice to us goes to legal@somalabs.me.

If we provide a translation of these Terms, the English version controls if there is a conflict.
