What each one reads

Oura Ring reads your finger around the clock. Oura says it takes your heart rate for a full minute every five minutes while you're still, and at night it reads your HRV, your skin temperature against your own baseline, your blood oxygen and your breathing rate, which feed its Sleep, Readiness and Activity scores. Since June 2026, Health Radar has looked across 30 nights for patterns in your breathing and blood pressure signals, without showing blood pressure values.

Soma Axon will read what a ring can't reach: photos of your skin all the way around, body composition, balance and grip strength, along with your heart and breathing, ECG, EEG and thermal imaging. It'll take a few minutes, once a week, and it'll read you the same way every time.

How they work together

Oura says that with a membership, it writes heart rate, sleep, steps, workouts and breathing rate to Apple Health. The Soma app runs on iPhone and reads Apple Health between visits, and it never writes anything back.

Which one fits

If sleep is what you want to follow, night after night, Oura is built around it, and it's available now. If you want your skin, your body composition and your strength read the same way every week, that's what we're building Axon for. The two can sit side by side.

Questions people ask

Is Oura Ring a medical device?

No. Oura says the ring isn't a medical device and isn't meant to diagnose or treat anything, and it has no FDA clearance of its own. Oura says it's studying a blood pressure feature the FDA would regulate. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't a medical device either.

Does Oura measure body composition?

The ring doesn't, though Oura can read body fat and lean mass that another device saves to Apple Health. Soma Axon will read body composition at every visit with a very small electrical current, while you stand on its plate with your hands on the grips.

How do the costs compare?

Oura Ring 5 starts at $399, and rings from Gen3 on need a membership for full insights, at $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Oura says both are HSA and FSA eligible. Soma hasn't announced a price. It'll be priced like a weekly habit, and prices come out before the first pod opens.

Does Oura offer blood tests?

Yes, in most of the US. Oura's Health Panels test 50 biomarkers at Quest Diagnostics locations for $99, booked in the app. Soma's blood test will be an optional finger prick at pods with an attendant, sent to a partner lab, with results a few days later.
