Give Soma access to Apple Health

The permission sheet Apple shows once, what to turn on and how to change it afterwards.

Everything Soma shows starts in Apple Health. Your iPhone, your Apple Watch and the apps of your ring, scale or sleep pad write their readings there, and Soma reads them with your permission.

The permission sheet

During setup, Soma asks Apple to show its Health permission sheet. It lists every kind of data Soma can read, one switch each.

  • Tap Turn On All to give Soma the full picture. That's what we suggest, since scores combine sleep, heart and activity.
  • Or turn on only the categories you're happy to share. Soma works with whatever you allow and leaves the rest blank.
  • Tap Allow to finish.

Soma only reads. It writes to Health only what you log yourself in Soma, like a weight or a breathing session, and only if you allow it.

Apple shows the sheet once

iOS shows the permission sheet a single time per app. If you skip a category, Soma can't bring the sheet back from inside the app. Change it in Apple's settings instead:

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap your picture at the top right.
  3. Tap Apps (on older iOS versions, Apps and Services), then Soma.
  4. Turn on the categories you want Soma to read.

You'll find the same switches in Settings > Apps > Health > Data Access & Devices > Soma.

Checking it from Soma

In Soma, tap the person icon at the top left, then Health access under Data. The Apple Health row says Connected once Soma has asked for access. Apple doesn't tell apps which categories you turned on, so check those in the Health app. Tapping the row opens it.
