Resting heart rate

Your heart rate when you're still, and what a few extra beats a minute can mean.

Resting heart rate is how fast your heart beats when you're calm and still, in beats per minute (bpm). Apple Watch and most rings work it out from your quietest moments, including the night.

How to read it

  • Lower than your usual often comes with good fitness and good rest.
  • A few beats above your usual for a day or more can follow a hard session, alcohol, a late meal, heat, stress or a coming cold.

Soma compares it with your own usual range. If it stays three days above usual and you turned on Data alerts, Soma lets you know. In the morning check-in, it may ask whether you're coming down with something.

Where it shows

Longevity > Body, under Fitness, and in the Vault under Heart. It feeds Recovery and Stress.

A resting heart rate that's very high or very low, or one with symptoms like dizziness or chest pain, is one for a doctor.
