Sleep has no stages or time in bed

Your tracker has to write stages and time in bed to Apple Health, not only hours asleep.

A sleep score can show hours asleep and still say Needs a night with stages or Needs time in bed from your tracker. Soma is missing the extra fields, not the night itself.

Stages

Apple Watch, most rings and most sleep pads can write Awake, Core, Deep and REM to Health. If they don't:

  1. Wear the device to bed, and keep Sleep tracking on in its app.
  2. Open the Health app, find Sleep (Browse or Search) and look for stages on a recent night.
  3. If stages aren't there, turn on the device's Health sharing for Sleep. Each brand's article under Connect your devices shows where.
  4. If two devices write sleep, pick which one counts. Mixed sources often drop stages.

Time in bed

Fell asleep in needs the time you got into bed, not only the time you fell asleep. Your iPhone's Sleep schedule writes time in bed, and so do some rings and sleep pads. Others only write hours asleep. If yours doesn't send time in bed, that line stays empty and the rest of the night still counts.

Then

Open Soma with the device nearby, or pull down on Today. If last night still hasn't arrived, see Numbers look late.

Sleep stages explains what each stage is.
