Connect Garmin

Turn on Apple Health in Garmin Connect and your sleep, heart rate, steps and workouts reach Soma.

Garmin watches reach Soma through the Garmin Connect app, which writes to Apple Health.

Turn it on

  1. Open Garmin Connect on your iPhone.
  2. Tap More at the bottom right.
  3. Tap Settings, then Connected Apps, then Apple Health.
  4. Allow the categories you want to share, or turn them all on, and tap Allow.

What Garmin writes

Steps, distance, flights climbed, heart rate, sleep, active and resting energy, workouts and, from an Index scale, weight, body fat and BMI.

Garmin keeps some of its own measures to itself, like Body Battery, HRV Status, Training Readiness and its stress score. Soma works out its own Recovery and Stress from the heart readings instead.

Good to know

  • Garmin Connect sends data when it syncs with your watch. Open it now and then, especially in the morning, so last night's sleep reaches Health.
  • The link only goes one way: Garmin writes to Health, but doesn't read your Apple Watch data.
  • If you also wear an Apple Watch, choose which one counts for sleep and heart rate. See Doubled or mismatched readings.

Check it worked

Open the Health app, tap your picture, then Apps. Garmin Connect should be listed. Tap it to see what it may write. Then, in Soma, give it a minute and pull down on Today.
