A visit, step by step
Is there a body scan I don't have to charge or wear?
Soma Axon is one. Soma's comparison table lists the pod as having nothing to charge, and it's a body scan you step into once a week instead of something on your wrist or finger. Rings and watches read a few signals all day, and the Soma app can read your phone and watch between visits if you wear one. Soma calls the pod a general wellness product, and it isn't open yet.
Skin check vs Soma Axon: who looks at your skin?
A dermatology practice gives you a head-to-toe look at your skin in a skin check, sometimes with photos. Soma Axon photographs your skin at every visit, but Soma's staff never see the photos. They see an outline of your body instead, and Soma won't say whether a mole is harmful. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod is still being built.

Soma Axon vs a 3D body scanner: what does each cost?
The price of a 3D body scan is set by each gym, going by Soma's guide to full-body scans. Soma hasn't announced a price for Soma Axon yet. It says the pod is meant to be a weekly habit and will be priced like one, and prices will be shared before the first pod opens. Both skip radiation. Soma's pod is general wellness, and it isn't available yet.

When will the first Soma pod open?
Soma hasn't announced a date. It's building the first prototype of Soma Axon now, and people on the waitlist will be the first to hear where the first pod opens and when the app is ready. Prices will be shared before the first pod opens, with the waitlist hearing them first. Soma Axon is a general wellness product.
Does Soma ask the same questions at every visit?
Yes. Before each reading, someone from Soma asks how you slept, when you last ate and whether you trained, so a short night or a hard session gets noted next to that week's numbers. Asking the same way each time fits the rest of the visit, which Soma keeps the same from week to week. The pod is general wellness, and it isn't open yet.

Can I skip the recovery part of a Soma visit?
What Soma describes is a recovery part in every visit, with the option to make any part of it gentler. It hasn't published a way to leave it out. The recovery part brings warmth, cool air and mist, light, sound and a slow breath. Soma says it's there to help you feel good and isn't meant to treat anything. Soma Axon is a wellness product, and it's still being built.
Skin photos and the blood test
Does Soma Axon photograph my skin?
Yes, at every visit. You turn a quarter at a time inside the closed pod so the cameras can photograph your skin, which gives you dated photos from each visit to look back on or show a clinician if you choose. What the pod reads belongs to you. Soma won't say whether a mole is harmful. It's a general wellness product, and Soma Axon is still being built, so for now there's a waitlist.
From FAQ, Home, For organizations, Waitlist and Compare.
Will Soma tell me whether a mole is harmful?
No. Soma won't tell you whether a mole is harmful, and it isn't intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Soma Axon photographs your skin at every visit, so you'd have dated photos to look back on or bring to a clinician if you choose. For questions about your health, Soma's Terms of Use say to talk to a qualified clinician. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod isn't open yet.

How does the optional Soma blood test work?
You choose whether to add it. At Soma Axon pods with an attendant, the attendant takes a few drops of blood from your fingertip and sends them to a partner lab, and the results reach the Soma app a few days later. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care. The pod is still being built, so the test can't be booked yet.

What if my state doesn't allow the fingertip blood draw at a Soma pod?
Then Soma gives you a kit to use at home instead. Where it's allowed, an attendant at the pod takes a few drops from your fingertip and sends them to a partner lab. Either way the blood test is optional, and it'll be an add-on with its own price. Soma is a general wellness product. Nothing is available yet, though you can join the waitlist.
From FAQ.
How much does the Soma blood test cost?
There's no price yet. Soma says the blood test will be an add-on with its own price, and that it'll share prices before the first pod opens, with the waitlist hearing them first. The test itself is optional: an attendant takes a few drops from your fingertip at pods that have one, and a partner lab handles them. It's general wellness, and Soma isn't medical care.
Does Soma photograph the skin under the fitted garment?
No. You'd wear your underwear in Soma Axon, and if you'd rather cover more, Soma will give you a fitted garment. The skin that garment covers won't be photographed. The rest is photographed at every visit while you turn a quarter at a time. Soma is a general wellness product and the pod isn't a medical device. It's still being built, with a waitlist for now.
Who at Soma can see the photos of my skin?
No one on Soma's staff. They never see the photos of your skin and see an outline of your body instead. Your data stays yours: Soma doesn't sell it or use it for ads, and you can ask for it to be deleted at any time from the pod or the app. Soma isn't medical care. Soma Axon isn't available yet, and there's a waitlist.
Is there a way to have my skin photographed the same way every week?
Some dermatology practices take photos as part of a head-to-toe skin check lasting about 10 to 30 minutes. One skin foundation suggests having a check once a year. Soma Axon is being built for weekly visits, photographing your skin every time from the same positions and under the same light, so you'd keep dated photos to look back on or show a clinician if you choose. It's a general wellness product, and the pod isn't open yet.

Are there wellness services that take blood from a fingertip?
Soma is building one into its weekly pod. Soma Axon's blood test is optional: at pods with an attendant, a few drops come from your fingertip and go to a partner lab, and the results reach the Soma app a few days later. Where a state doesn't allow that, you'd get a kit to use at home. Soma is built for wellness and isn't medical care. The first pod hasn't opened yet.
What should I wear for a body scan that photographs my skin?
Soma Axon, the pod Palo Alto's Soma Labs is building, is meant to be used in your underwear. You change in a private room first, and nothing gets strapped to you. If you'd rather cover more, Soma will give you a fitted garment, though the skin under it won't be photographed. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod isn't available yet.
How do Soma Axon's skin photos differ from a skin check at a dermatology practice?
At a dermatology practice, a skin check is a head-to-toe look at your skin lasting about 10 to 30 minutes, sometimes with photos. Soma Axon is being built to photograph your skin at every weekly visit, but Soma won't tell you whether a mole is harmful. It's a general wellness product and doesn't replace your doctor or your check-ups. You'd have dated photos to show a clinician if you choose. The pod isn't available yet.

Can a smartwatch or smart ring photograph my skin the way Soma Axon will?
Not the ones Soma has looked at. Soma's blog notes that the popular watches, bands and rings it compared read you from one spot on the body, and none of them lists a way to photograph your skin. Soma Axon is being built to photograph your skin all the way around at every visit, while the Soma app reads your phone and watch in between. It's a general wellness product. The pod isn't available yet.
Does the Soma blood test involve a needle?
Only if you add it. A Soma Axon visit on its own uses no cuff and no needle. The optional blood test takes a few drops from your fingertip at pods with an attendant, and a partner lab handles them, with results in the Soma app a few days later. Soma isn't medical care, and the pod isn't a medical device. It isn't available yet, and there's a waitlist.
When will I see my Soma blood test results?
A few days after your visit. An attendant sends the drops from your fingertip to a partner lab, and the results land in the Soma app. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care, so for questions about your health, talk to a qualified clinician. The test can't be booked yet, since the first prototype of Soma Axon is still being built.
