How the numbers work
Which body scan options take only a few minutes?
Several do, going by Soma's guide to full-body scans. A 3D body scan takes under a minute, a smart scale about 30 seconds and a DEXA scan about 7 to 11 minutes, while a whole-body MRI runs 22 to 60 minutes. Soma Axon is designed for a few minutes of standing still, followed by a recovery part. It's a wellness product, and it isn't medical care. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) hasn't opened the pod yet and keeps a waitlist.

What does a whole-body read include, compared with a single measurement?
At Soma, a whole-body read means Soma Axon photographs your skin and reads your heart, breathing, body composition, balance and strength at one visit, the same way every time. A single measurement shows one of those at one moment, and Soma says one reading on its own doesn't tell you much. Weekly reads taken the same way show what's changing and how fast. Everything here is general wellness. It isn't available yet, though Soma Labs (somalabs.me) runs a waitlist.

Can a body scan read several things at once?
That's the idea behind Soma Axon. In a few minutes, its cameras read pulse and breathing and photograph your skin, while thermal, EEG, ECG, body composition and grip take the rest. You stand with your hands on the grips and your feet on the plate, and cameras, light and contact sensors do the reading. Soma Axon isn't a medical device. Soma Labs Inc., the California company behind Soma Axon, hasn't opened it yet and keeps a waitlist.
How can I see my weekly numbers together with my phone's daily data?
Soma's app is built for that pairing. Soma Axon does the full read once a week, and your phone and watch fill in the days between, with the Soma app showing it all in three parts: Today, Body and Mind. Soma puts it simply: the watch covers the days, and the pod covers the week. It's general wellness and isn't cleared or approved by the FDA. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) hasn't opened the pod or released the app yet, and there's a waitlist.
Can I see which of my measures are steady and which are moving?
Soma's app is designed to show that when you tap a score: it lays out what moved it, with each measure set against your own usual range. In Mind, those measures are HRV, resting heart rate and breathing. Body adds the longer view, reading the trend across all your Soma Axon visits and saying how sure Soma is. The service is a general wellness product. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) hasn't released the app to the public yet, and there's a waitlist.
Is there a way to see body changes without stepping on a scale every day?
A daily scale is one option, and Soma's blog gives it its due: it lives at home, where you can step on it every morning in 30 seconds. Soma Axon is built around a weekly visit, reading body composition the same basic way with a very small electrical current, under the same light, from the same positions and with the same instrument each week. It stays within general wellness and isn't a medical device. It isn't available yet, and there's a waitlist.

How does Soma decide what goes into a score?
A Soma score only sums up what was measured and what you reported, such as how you slept or whether you trained. Nothing else goes in. Tap it and you'll see what moved it, each measure set against your own usual range. The reported part comes from the start of a Soma Axon visit, when someone asks about your sleep, your last meal and your training. Soma is a general wellness product. The app isn't out for everyone yet, and the waitlist hears first when it's ready.

Does Soma Axon compare this week's visit with earlier ones?
That's the point of going weekly. Body, in the Soma app, reads the trend across all your Soma Axon visits and says how sure Soma is and how much data each answer is based on. After a handful of visits, Soma expects to have a baseline built from your own readings. One reading on its own doesn't tell you much, Soma says. It's a general wellness product. No pod is open yet, though the waitlist is.

Why does Soma Axon use the same grips and floor plate every time?
So you're measured in the same position at every visit. You'll stand in the same spot with your hands on the same two grips and your feet on the plate, which reads body composition and balance. The pod, its lighting and its camera angles don't change between visits either, so what changes week to week is you. Soma Axon isn't a medical device. Soma Labs, the Palo Alto company building Soma Axon, hasn't opened a pod yet but keeps a waitlist.

Does the Soma app keep updating between pod visits?
Yes. Between Soma Axon visits, the Soma app keeps reading from your phone and watch, which fill in the days while the pod does the full read once a week. Today sums up each day in three scores and one next move. A watch is optional, but wearing one gives the app more detail about the days in between. It's general wellness, and Soma isn't a medical device. The app is still on its way to the public, with a waitlist in the meantime.
Will Soma's numbers show up in Apple Health?
No. The Soma app reads Apple Health, with your permission and only for the data types you allow, but it never writes anything back. Soma also doesn't use your Apple Health data for advertising or marketing. Soma's own numbers stay in the Soma app, explained in plain words. It's a wellness product, and it isn't medical care. Soma Labs Inc. in Palo Alto hasn't opened the app to the public yet, and there's a waitlist.

Does Soma use AI to explain my numbers?
Some Soma features answer questions in plain language using an AI model, and they're optional: you choose when to use them, and Soma doesn't turn them on for you. They're informational only and can be wrong or incomplete. When you use one, Soma sends your question and only the part of your data that feature needs to an AI model provider. Soma isn't a medical device and isn't cleared or approved by the FDA. The app isn't ready for the public yet, and there's a waitlist.

Is Soma responsible for numbers that come from services I connect?
Soma's Terms say its computed results depend on your phone's sensors, on Apple Health and on any service you connect, none of which Soma controls. They also say Soma isn't responsible for the content, practices or availability of services it doesn't control, such as wearable makers. You control any connection and can remove it at any time. All of this sits within general wellness. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) hasn't released the app to the public yet, and there's a waitlist.

Can Soma's numbers be used to make decisions about someone's job or insurance?
Not under Soma's Terms. Users may not use Soma, or anything it computes, to make a decision about someone else's employment, insurance, credit or housing. That rule reaches the numbers in the app and anything derived from them. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care. It isn't open yet, but there's a waitlist.

Does Soma sell the numbers it collects about me?
No. Soma says it doesn't sell personal information and doesn't use what it collects to advertise to you. Its promise is that your data stays yours, and it doesn't give health data to data brokers. There are no ads in Soma either. It's general wellness and isn't cleared or approved by the FDA. Soma Labs, the Palo Alto company building both, hasn't opened either one yet but keeps a waitlist.

What happens to my Soma numbers if I ask to delete my data?
They go. Soma says that when you ask it to delete your data, it's gone from the pod, the app and Soma's systems within 30 days. Its backups clear it within 90 days. You can ask at any time from the pod and the app, or email privacy@somalabs.me to delete everything. Soma may keep what the law requires it to keep. Soma offers it as a general wellness product. The app and pod aren't available yet, and there's a waitlist.
From Home, FAQ and Terms of Use.
Does Soma keep my numbers if I close my account?
Soma keeps an account, its raw record and its derived facts while the account stays open, and you can close your account at any time. Separately, you can ask Soma to delete your data: it's gone from live systems within 30 days and from backups within 90. Soma is built for general wellness and isn't a medical device. The app isn't out for everyone yet, and the waitlist hears first when it's ready.
From Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, Home and FAQ.
Can the Soma app show anything before my first pod visit?
Yes. Today reads what your phone and watch already measure and sums up the day in three scores and one next move, without an account. Body builds on your weekly Soma Axon visits, so it fills in as you visit. Soma calls itself a general wellness product. Soma Labs, the Palo Alto company behind the app, hasn't released it yet but keeps a waitlist.
From Home, FAQ, Terms of Use and About.
What do Soma Axon's cameras read?
They read pulse and breathing without touching you, and they photograph your skin. The cameras work under the same light at every visit, so when a number moves, Soma says it's because something changed in you. The other readings come from thermal, EEG, ECG, body composition and grip, all in a few minutes. Soma Axon isn't a medical device. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) hasn't opened a pod yet, and there's a waitlist.
What sensors besides cameras does Soma Axon use?
Thermal imaging, EEG, ECG, a floor plate and a pair of grips. The floor plate reads body composition and balance, using a very small electrical current for body composition, and the grips give grip strength. All of it happens in one visit. Soma Axon isn't a medical device. It's still being built, and there's a waitlist.
