Skin photos and the blood test

Is there a waitlist for a body scan that photographs skin?

Yes, Soma has one for Soma Axon. You leave an email on the newsletter page, and Soma will tell you when the first pod opens and when the app is ready. People on the waitlist also hear prices first. The pod will photograph your skin at every visit once it's available. Soma isn't medical care.

Do full-body skin photo scans need me to hold a pose?

In Soma Axon, you'd stand still for a few minutes while the pod takes its reading, turning a quarter at a time so the cameras can photograph your skin all the way around. Nothing is strapped to you, and you'd be in underwear or a fitted garment. It's a wellness product, and Soma isn't medical care. The pod is still being built, so there's a waitlist rather than bookings.

What do I need to use a weekly body scan that photographs skin?

For Soma Axon, you'd need to be an adult 18 or over in the United States who can stand still for a few minutes. How do I find out what a body scan photographs before I book one?

Soma's guide makes the point that what counts as a full-body scan depends on who's offering it, so it's worth asking what a scan measures before you book it. For Soma Axon, the pod photographs your skin at every visit and reads heart, breathing, body composition, balance and strength. It doesn't image your organs. It's a general wellness product, still being built.

Which body scans are meant for weekly visits instead of yearly ones?

Soma's guide lists what providers suggest: a whole-body MRI once a year, a DEXA scan every 3 to 6 months and a 3D body scan every 30 to 90 days, per one scanner maker. Soma Axon is built for a weekly visit, photographing your skin every time, so you can see how your readings change from one week to the next. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod isn't open yet.

Do I have to hold anything during a full-body skin photo scan?

In Soma Axon, you'd keep your hands on two grips and your feet on a floor plate while cameras, light and contact sensors read you in a few minutes. The skin photos come from turning a quarter at a time. Nothing is strapped to you. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't a medical device. The pod is still in development, with a waitlist.

Will fingertip blood results from a body scan show up in Apple Health?

Not with Soma. Its optional blood test results reach the Soma app a few days after your visit, and the Soma app reads Apple Health but never writes anything back to it. The test itself happens at Soma Axon pods with an attendant, who sends a few drops from your fingertip to a partner lab. Soma Axon isn't a medical device. It isn't available yet.

Can two people share one account for a weekly skin photo pod?

Soma's Terms of Use say each account is for one person: you shouldn't share it, and you should only add your own data. One account works at every Soma Axon pod, so your record follows you from venue to venue. The pod photographs your skin at every visit. Soma counts as general wellness. The pod isn't available yet, and there's a waitlist.

Do I need to be able to stand for a pod that photographs skin?

For now, yes. Soma Axon is for adults who can stand still for a few minutes, and you'd turn a quarter at a time for the skin photos. Do I need a smartwatch to use a weekly body scan with skin photos?

Not for Soma. A watch is optional: if you wear one, the Soma app gets more detail about the days between visits, but the pod photographs your skin at every visit either way. The app does need an iPhone, since it reads Apple Health. Soma is a general wellness product, and Soma Axon isn't available yet.

Can teenagers use a weekly body scan pod that photographs skin?

How could a research team study skin photos from a wellness pod?

Soma describes how research would work with Soma Axon data: studies run only with members who opt in to that study, and the team sends its analysis into a secure enclave, where it runs next to de-identified data that never leaves. Researchers can tell Soma what they'd like to study through its developers page. It's a general wellness product, and the pod isn't available yet.

What does a venue see when it hosts a pod that photographs skin?

With Soma Axon, a venue sees how often the pod gets used and never anyone's results. Soma illustrates it as visits through the week shown as bars, beside a locked results area marked as staying with members. Soma's staff don't see skin photos either, only an outline of each member's body. Soma is a general wellness product, and the first prototype is being built.

Can I get a fingertip blood test at a longevity clinic?

Longevity clinics are among the places Soma plans to put Soma Axon, as a weekly read between the deeper workups a clinic already runs. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care. No pod has opened yet.

Can I try a body scan that photographs skin before it launches?

Soma isn't cleared or approved by the FDA, and it isn't medical care.

From FAQ.

Will the Soma app tell me if a spot on my skin is okay?

The app won't give a verdict on your skin. Soma says plainly that it won't tell you whether a mole is harmful, and Soma isn't medical care. What you'd get is a photo of your skin from every visit, yours to look back on or take to a clinician if you choose. Soma's Terms say to talk to a qualified clinician about your health. Soma Axon, the pod that takes the photos, isn't available yet.

From FAQ, For organizations, Terms of Use and Compare.

What does Soma do with my skin photos?

Soma Axon takes them at every visit while you turn a quarter at a time, and they become part of what the pod reads, which belongs to you. Soma's staff never see them. They see an outline of your body instead, and Soma doesn't sell your data or use it for ads. You can ask for deletion at any time. Soma won't say whether a mole is harmful. From FAQ, Home and For organizations.

Is the Soma home blood kit the same as the test at the pod?

Soma describes the home kit as what you get instead where a state doesn't allow the fingertip draw at the pod. At pods with an attendant in other states, the attendant takes a few drops from your fingertip and sends them to a partner lab, with results reaching the Soma app a few days later. Both sit under the same optional blood test, which will have its own price. Soma is a general wellness product, and neither is available yet.

From FAQ and Compare.

Does Soma Labs run its own lab for the blood test?

Soma's FAQ says the drops go to a partner lab. At Soma Axon pods with an attendant, the attendant takes a few drops from your fingertip and sends them there, and the results come back to the Soma app a few days later. Soma Labs Inc., based in Palo Alto, California, makes Soma, which is a general wellness product. The pod isn't available yet.
