Soma Labs, the company

Is there a wellness company that promises not to re-identify anonymized data?

Soma Labs makes that commitment. When it uses data in de-identified or aggregated form, meaning it can't reasonably be used to identify you, it's to improve Soma. The company commits not to attempt to re-identify it, and for research, member data stays de-identified inside a secure enclave. Soma is a general wellness product.

Will a wellness company tell me if my data is breached?

Soma Labs says it'll notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires if a breach affects your data. It uses safeguards designed for health data, including encryption in transit between the app and its servers and access limited to the few people who need it to run Soma. It also says no system is perfectly secure.

Is there a wellness app I can quit and delete at any time?

The Soma app is built that way. You can turn off history sync or delete the app at any time, and you can close your account whenever you like. Soma's Terms also say you can stop using it for any reason. To remove your data too, email privacy@somalabs.me, and Soma Labs clears it from live systems within 30 days and from backups within 90.

What should I know before sharing health data with a wellness app?

For the Soma app, Soma Labs spells out a few things. Access to Apple Health is read-only and limited to the types you allow. Nothing you see on the Today view is sent to the company, and history sync is a separate choice you can turn off. Soma doesn't sell data or use it for ads, and you can ask for deletion at privacy@somalabs.me. It's a general wellness product.

Is there a wellness app that asks before using AI on my data?

Soma's AI features are optional: you choose when to use them, and Soma Labs doesn't turn them on for you. When you do use one, it sends your question and only the part of your data that feature needs to an AI model provider, which may not use it to train its models. The answers are informational only and can be wrong. Soma is a general wellness product.

Is the Soma app made by the same company as Soma Axon?

Yes. Soma Labs Inc. operates Soma, which its Privacy Policy describes as a wellness app built around Apple Health, and it's also building Soma Axon, the closed pod you'd step into once a week. The company's Terms say the names Soma and Soma Axon belong to it. Neither the app nor the pod is available yet, and both are general wellness products.

Does writing to Soma Labs put me on the waitlist?

It doesn't. Soma's Privacy Policy says writing through the organizations or developers form doesn't add you to the waitlist. To hear when the first Soma Axon pod opens, you'd join the waitlist separately.

Ninety days. Soma Labs' Privacy Policy says sign-up attempts and inquiries it turns away, such as automated or invalid ones, are kept for 90 days. An inquiry you send through the website is kept no longer than 24 months, and a waitlist email until you're invited or ask to be removed, and in any case no longer than 24 months after you joined.

From Privacy Policy.

When will Soma Axon be available?

Soma Axon is still at the prototype stage: Soma Labs is building the first one now. The company will share prices before the first pod opens, with the waitlist hearing them first. People on the list will also hear when the first pod opens and when the app is ready. The pod is a general wellness product.
