The Soma app

What does tapping the Mind score show?

Tap the Mind score in the Soma app and you'll see which measures moved it: your HRV, resting heart rate or breathing, each against your own usual range. They sit next to the day's stress peaks and last night's sleep, so you can see the day around the number. All of this sits in general wellness, and Soma isn't a medical device.

Is there a way to see my daily stress next to how I slept?

One way is to see them side by side, which is how the Soma app lays them out. Tapping its Mind score shows the day's stress peaks next to last night's sleep, along with which measures moved the score. For sleep, Soma looks at whether your nights make up for what your days take out of you. Soma Labs is still building it as a general wellness product, with a waitlist in the meantime.

Can I ask questions about my wellness data in plain language?

With the Soma app you'll be able to, if you choose to. Some of its features answer questions in plain language using an AI model, and Soma never switches them on for you. Only your question and the slice of data that feature needs go to the AI model provider. The answers can be wrong or incomplete and aren't medical advice, and Soma is a general wellness product. The app isn't available yet.

Will the Soma app's AI features train on my data?

Soma says it only uses AI model providers that act on its behalf. They may not use what you send to train their models, and they may not keep it longer than they need to answer your question. What they get is your question plus only the part of your data that feature needs, and only if you choose to use one of Soma's optional AI features. These readings are for general wellness.

What does a weekly body scan add if I already wear a watch?

A watch is on you all day, so it can follow trends in your heart rate and sleep. The watch and band that Soma compared don't list a way to measure body composition, photograph your skin or test grip and balance, and that's what Soma Axon is being built to add once a week. The Soma app sets that weekly read next to what your watch saves to Apple Health. Neither the pod nor the app is available yet, and Soma isn't a medical device.

Can I use the Soma app with a fitness band instead of a watch?

Soma talks about watches and bands the same way: a watch or band covers the days, and Soma Axon covers the week. The Soma app reads Apple Health, so readings your band's app saves there are ones it can read, as long as you allow those data types. A watch is optional anyway. For now there's a waitlist, and Soma is a general wellness product.

How does the Soma app compare with a smart ring's app?

The ring apps Soma compared read you from your finger and turn your nights into scores for things like sleep and recovery. Neither ring lists a way to measure body composition, photograph skin or test grip and balance. The Soma app reads Apple Health between visits and adds the weekly Soma Axon read, and Soma puts it simply: the ring covers your nights and the pod covers the week. It's general wellness information, and Soma isn't medical care.

Does the Soma app read my smart scale?

The Soma app can read what your scale saves to Apple Health, as long as you allow those data types. It reads Apple Health between visits and never writes anything back. Soma Axon also reads body composition itself once a week, in the same basic way as a smart scale, with a very small electrical current while you stand on its plate with your hands on the grips. Soma is built for wellness: it isn't a medical device.

Can one app combine my smart scale, ring and watch readings?

Apple Health on an iPhone can hold readings from several devices: the watch, rings, band and scale that Soma's comparisons cover each say they can save some of theirs there. The Soma app reads Apple Health with your permission and shows it on three views. Soma is a general wellness product, and the app isn't available yet.

What happens in the Soma app after a pod visit?

Soma Axon shows you one calm number on your way out, and everything else waits in the Soma app, explained in plain words with the margin of error for each value. Body adds the visit to the trend across all your visits. If you added the blood test, its results reach the app a few days later. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care.

From FAQ and Home.

Does the Soma app explain results in plain words?

Yes. Everything past the one number Soma Axon shows on your way out is in the Soma app, explained in plain words. Each value carries its margin of error, and you'll also see whether the science behind a number is well established or still being tested. Soma is a general wellness product.

From FAQ and Home.

Is there a wellness app that shows the margin of error on every number?

That's how the Soma app is meant to work. Every number Soma shows comes with its margin of error, and it also says whether the science behind each one is well established or still being tested, so you know how much weight to give it. Where something wasn't measured, the place stays empty instead of showing a zero. It's a wellness product that isn't cleared or approved by the FDA, and the waitlist hears first when it's ready.

From Home and FAQ.

What does the Soma app show when a sensor couldn't get a clean reading?

A blank. If something wasn't measured, or a sensor couldn't get a clean reading, Soma leaves that place in the app empty and won't put a zero or a best guess there. A score then only sums up what was measured and what you reported, like how you slept or whether you trained. Soma is a wellness product and isn't cleared or approved by the FDA.

From Home and FAQ.

Why would a wellness app leave a reading blank instead of guessing?

Soma's reason is honesty. If a sensor couldn't get a clean reading, or something wasn't measured, the Soma app leaves it empty. You won't see a zero or a best guess instead. Soma Labs says knowing yourself also means being honest about what a number can't tell you. Soma is general wellness and still being built, so the waitlist is the way in.

From Home, Know thyself, FAQ and Waitlist.

Does every score in the Soma app show what moved it?

Yes. Every score in the Soma app shows what moved it. Tap one and you'll see each measure set against your own usual range. A score only sums up what was measured and what you told Soma, like how you slept or whether you trained. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't a medical device.

From Home and FAQ.

How do I know what went into a wellness score?

In the Soma app, you tap it. Each score shows what moved it, with every measure set against your own usual range, and a score only sums up what was measured plus what you reported, such as how you slept. Scores from Soma are estimates that come from wellness signals rather than clinical tests, and they can be wrong. The waitlist hears first when the app is ready, and Soma keeps to general wellness.

From Home, Terms of Use and FAQ.

What is the next move on the Soma app's Today view?

When you open the Soma app, Today sums up the day in three scores and one next move, computed on your phone, even in airplane mode. Soma's public pages don't go into what each next move says beyond that. Every score shows what moved it, and Soma is a general wellness product that isn't medical care.

From Home, Privacy Policy and FAQ.

What's a wellness app that gives me one clear thing to do each day?

Soma is building one. Its app's Today view sums up your day in three scores and one next move as soon as you open it, from what your phone and watch record in Apple Health. It's worked out on your iPhone, so there's no network to wait on. Soma is a general wellness product, and the app isn't available yet: the waitlist hears first.

From Home and FAQ.

Can the Soma app show last night's sleep?

Yes, in context. Tapping the Mind score in the Soma app shows which measures moved it next to the day's stress peaks and last night's sleep. For sleep in general, Soma looks at whether your sleep makes up for what your days take out of you. A watch is optional, and wearing one gives the app more detail about the days between visits. Soma is meant for general wellness.

From Home and FAQ.

How can I tell if my sleep is keeping up with my busy days?

A watch worn all day can follow trends in your sleep. Soma looks at exactly that question: whether your sleep makes up for what your days take out of you. In the Soma app, the Mind score sits next to the day's stress peaks and last night's sleep when you tap it. Soma is a general wellness product, and neither the app nor Soma Axon is available yet.
