Scores and what moves them

Sleep, Recovery, Strain, Stress, Energy and Mind: what each one reads, and what the colours mean.

Every score runs from 0 to 100. Each one shows the readings that moved it, so you can see why it's where it is.

The scores

  • Sleep weighs how long you slept against what you need, then how efficient your night was, your deep and REM sleep, how unbroken it was and how far your heart rate dropped.
  • Recovery reads last night's heart rate variability and resting heart rate against your usual, with your sleep and how calm yesterday was.
  • Strain is your training load: how long your heart spent in each zone, set against what you usually do. Without heart data, Soma estimates it from active energy, steps or exercise minutes.
  • Stress reads your HRV and resting heart rate against your usual. Higher means more stress.
  • Energy is a running balance through the day: sleep charges it, and time awake, stress and activity draw it down.

On Today, Activity is your Strain score, and Mind is your Recovery score (or Stress turned the other way round when there's no Recovery).

The colours

  • Green means a reading sits in its normal range.
  • Orange means it's outside it.
  • Red is kept for readings far outside, like a high blood pressure stage.
  • Grey means there's nothing to compare yet.

The score rings always wear their area's colour, whatever the number. A colour is a nudge to look closer. It can't diagnose anything.

When a score shows a dash

Sleep, Recovery and Stress need about a week of data. Strain and Energy show from the first day. Why your scores take a week explains it.

Scores are wellness estimates for your own reflection. If something worries you, talk to a doctor.
