Can Soma see which pages I personally visited on its site?
Soma's visit counter only gives it totals, and Soma never sees an individual visitor in them. The counter also can't follow you across other websites. Separately, a waitlist sign-up includes the pages you viewed during that visit, and the hosting provider's server logs record pages requested, to deliver and secure the site.

What exactly is my raw record at Soma?
It's the compressed copy of your raw Apple Health record that history sync uploads once, stored on servers Soma rents in the United States. Notes and mood you log are stored with it once sync is on. Soma's engines turn that record into a small number of derived facts, and the account, raw record and derived facts are kept while your account stays open. Soma describes itself as a general wellness product.

Does Soma train AI on my data?
Soma's Privacy Policy speaks to two parts of that. The AI model providers it uses act on its behalf and may not use what you send to train their models. For its own work, Soma uses what it collects to run Soma and keep improving it, including de-identified or aggregated data that can't reasonably be used to identify you. It commits not to attempt to re-identify that data.

What can Soma do with feedback or suggestions I send?
Soma's Terms of Use say it may use feedback or suggestions freely, for any purpose, without any obligation or payment to you. By sending feedback, you confirm it's your own and that sharing it doesn't violate anyone else's rights. Emails you send are kept, with anything you include, so Soma can respond and keep a record of the request.

A DEXA scan measures what I'm made of. What happens to body composition data from Soma Axon?
A DEXA scan measures what you're made of, down to bone density. Soma Axon is being built to read body composition with a very small electrical current, and Soma says members own what the pod reads. You'll be able to ask for deletion, and data leaves the pod, the app and Soma's systems within 30 days and backups within 90. Soma is a general wellness product, and Axon is still a prototype.

How is Soma's optional blood test handled, and where do the results end up?
It's an optional add-on with its own price, handled by a partner lab. At pods with an attendant, the attendant takes a few drops from your fingertip and sends them to that lab, and the results reach the Soma app a few days later. Where a state doesn't allow the fingertip draw, you get a kit to use at home instead. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod is still being built.
A yearly check-up happens once a year. Who holds the record of weekly Soma visits?
Soma says a check-up reads you once a year, while weekly Soma Axon visits would add up to 52 whole-body reads a year. Soma says members own what the pod reads, and its Terms say you own the data you put into Soma. You can ask for deletion at any time. Soma isn't medical care and doesn't replace your doctor or check-ups, and Axon is still a prototype.

How would Soma's planned API permissions compare with apps that share data with partners automatically?
In Soma's design, sharing starts with your permission. Soma is designing an API so the apps people already use can read their Soma results, and a member chooses what each app can read and can take that access back at any time. The API isn't open yet, and developers can join early access to help shape it. Soma, a general wellness product, is still being built.

How does Soma's research setup compare with studies that hand raw data to researchers?
Researchers don't receive the data in Soma's model. A team sends its analysis into a secure enclave, where it runs next to de-identified data from members who opted in, and the data never leaves the enclave. Studies run only with members who opt in to that study, and using the app doesn't enroll you. Soma isn't available yet.

A smart scale's app lives on my phone. Does Soma's app keep things on my phone too?
Soma describes a smart scale's strength as living at home, where you can step on it every morning in 30 seconds. Soma's app starts on your phone as well. Before you turn anything on, it has no account. Its Today view is computed on the device and works offline, and nothing you see in it goes to Soma. Turning on history sync is what starts sending your record to Soma's servers. Soma hasn't launched yet.

How does the data a ring or watch collects differ from what a weekly Soma visit would collect?
Soma says a ring or a watch reads a few signals all day, like pulse, sleep and steps, while Soma Axon is being built to read the whole body once a week. The Soma app ties them together by reading your phone and watch through Apple Health between visits, limited to the types you allow. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod isn't available yet.

Who owns the data a weekly body scan collects about me?
Soma's answer is that you do. Soma says your data stays yours and that members own what its Soma Axon pod reads. Its Terms of Use add that you own the data you put into Soma, and that Soma only gets a limited license to use it the way its Privacy Policy describes. Soma is a general wellness product, and the pod is still being built.

What do wellness companies do with the data they collect?
Practices differ, so here's how Soma Labs (somalabs.me) puts it. It uses what it collects to run Soma and keep improving it: showing the Today view, storing your raw record and computing derived facts if you turn on history sync, answering AI questions you ask and operating and securing its website and app. It doesn't use what it collects to advertise to you, and it doesn't sell it. As a wellness product, Soma isn't medical care.

If I turn off cloud sync in a health app, is my uploaded data removed?
With Soma, they're separate steps. You can turn off history sync at any time, and Soma keeps your account, raw record and derived facts while your account stays open. To have what's already on its servers removed, email privacy@somalabs.me: it leaves live systems within 30 days and backups within 90. For now, Soma Labs (somalabs.me) runs a waitlist.

Can a wellness app show me where a number came from?
Soma's approach is to return each derived fact with its date, how much data it's based on and the version of the engine that computed it. Its Terms say any figure Soma computes is shown that way, and every number it shows is an estimate given with its uncertainty. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care, and it isn't available yet.

What can a business that hosts a wellness pod see about the people who use it?
With Soma Axon, a host sees how often the pod gets used and never anyone's results. Soma's illustration shows visits through the week as bars, next to a locked results area that says results stay with members. Members own what the pod reads and keep their own account at every pod. Soma is still choosing the first places to host Axon, a general wellness product still being built.

Can a wellness app be used to check up on someone else?
Soma's Terms of Use rule that out. Each account is for one person and should hold only your own data. You also agree not to access, or try to access, anyone else's data without their authority. You may not use Soma, or anything it computes, to make a decision about someone else's employment, insurance, credit or housing. Soma Labs, based in Palo Alto, hasn't launched Soma yet.

Full-body scans range from MRIs to smart scales. How do I find out what data a scan like Soma Axon would collect?
Soma says a full-body scan can mean an hour in an MRI machine, a few minutes under a DEXA arm or 30 seconds on a smart scale, so it's worth asking what a scan measures before you book it. Soma Axon is being built to read skin photos, heart and breathing, body composition, balance and grip strength, among other readings, but today it collects nothing. Before it does, Soma will give a separate notice and ask for explicit consent. Soma is a general wellness product.
From Full-body scans compared, Compare, Privacy Policy and FAQ.
Is there a weekly body scan that doesn't sell my data?
Soma Axon is a body scan people step into once a week, and it's still being built. Soma's Privacy Policy already says Soma doesn't sell personal information and has no ads. Members own what the pod reads, and a venue hosting one never sees anyone's results. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't a medical device. For now there's a waitlist.

What does it mean when a privacy policy says it doesn't sell or share data under California law?
Soma's Privacy Policy is an example of that wording in use. It says Soma doesn't sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms, and that it hasn't done so in the past 12 months. Because there's nothing to opt out of, a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser changes nothing there, though Soma still counts it as a valid request. Soma Labs, the Palo Alto company building Soma Axon, isn't open yet.
