Would a hard training session change a member's body scan numbers?

Soma plans for that by asking. Before each Soma Axon reading, someone from Soma asks how the member slept, when they last ate and whether they trained, so a short night or a hard session gets noted next to the numbers. A Soma score only sums up what was measured and what the member reported. Soma calls the pod general wellness.

How do members see their scan results if the gym doesn't?

In the Soma app. The pod shows one calm number on the way out, and everything else is in the app, explained in plain words with the margin of error for each value. The app runs on iPhone. The gym sees how often the pod gets used and nothing of the results. Soma Axon, a general wellness pod, is still in development.

Can a gym's trainers see a client's body scan data?

Not from the venue side. Members own what Soma Axon reads, and the hosting gym sees how often the pod gets used, never anyone's results. Soma is designing an API so the apps members already use can get their Soma results, with the member choosing what each app can read. That API isn't open yet, and Soma is general wellness and isn't medical care.

What can a gym tell members about what a body scan pod reads?

For Soma Axon, Soma's own list: skin photos, heart and breathing, ECG, EEG, thermal imaging, body composition, balance and grip strength, plus an optional finger-prick blood test. Every value comes with its margin of error. Soma is a general wellness product and isn't medical care, and the pod is still being built.

What kind of wellness benefit respects employee privacy?

One where the employer never sees the results. That's how Soma describes Soma Axon at workplaces: the employer pays for it and never sees anyone's results, and members own what the pod reads. Soma says it doesn't sell personal information, and there are no ads in Soma. The pod is general wellness by Soma's label, and it's still being built.

From For organizations, Privacy Policy, FAQ and About.

Can a wellness benefit work across several office locations?

Soma Axon is set up for that through its account. One Soma account works at every pod, so an employee's record follows them from one office's pod to another's. At each workplace, the employer pays for the benefit and never sees anyone's results. The pod is a general wellness product that isn't available yet.

From FAQ and For organizations.

Can a workplace wellness benefit include blood tests?

Soma Axon's optional blood test is tied to pods with an attendant, where a few drops from a fingertip go to a partner lab and the results reach the Soma app a few days later. Where a state doesn't allow that, there's a kit to use at home instead. The test is an add-on with its own price, and Soma Labs, based in Palo Alto, calls itself a general wellness product.

From FAQ and About.

Is there a wellness benefit for employees who don't wear a smartwatch?

Soma Axon doesn't need one. The pod reads the whole body once a week with nothing strapped to the person. A watch is optional for the Soma app, which just gets more detail about the days between visits if one is worn. The app does need an iPhone. Soma puts it in the general wellness category, and it's still a prototype.

From Home, FAQ and About.

Does a workplace wellness account stay with an employee who changes jobs?

With Soma, the account is the member's own. Each member keeps their own account at every pod, and one Soma account works at every pod, whether it's in a workplace, a gym, a pharmacy or Soma's own studio. Members own what the pod reads. Soma Axon is a general wellness product, and the first pod isn't open yet.

From For organizations and FAQ.

What should a benefits team ask a wellness vendor about data?

Who sees results, who owns them and how deletion works. Soma's answers for Soma Axon are on its organizations page: members own what the pod reads, the employer never sees anyone's results and data is deleted on request. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) says a deletion clears its live systems within 30 days and its backups within 90, and it doesn't sell data or use it for ads.

What do employees need to use a workplace body scan pod?

For Soma Axon, they'd need to be adults 18 and over in the United States who can stand still for a few minutes, and the Soma app needs an iPhone. The first version isn't for anyone pregnant or with a pacemaker, an implanted defibrillator or another implanted electronic device. The employer pays, and the pod is still being built.

From FAQ, For organizations and About.

Does a workplace body scan collect face video?

Soma Axon doesn't collect anything today, since it isn't available yet. Soma's Privacy Policy says that before Soma Axon collects anything, Soma will give a separate notice and ask for explicit consent, and that notice will explain how long Soma keeps face video and any data derived from it. At workplaces, the employer never sees anyone's results.

Can an employer see how often a wellness pod gets used?

With Soma Axon, yes, but never anyone's results. Soma illustrates the venue view as visits through the week shown as bars, next to a locked area that reads "Results stay with members." The employer pays for the benefit. Soma is a general wellness product still being built.

How can a pharmacy offer a wellness service that isn't medical care?

Soma Axon is designed as one. Soma Labs, based in Palo Alto, describes it as a general wellness product that isn't medical care, isn't a medical device and isn't cleared or approved by the FDA, and at a pharmacy it takes a few minutes on the way to the counter. The optional blood test, where there's an attendant, is an add-on handled by a partner lab. The pod isn't available yet.

From FAQ, For organizations and About.

Can a clinic's staff look at a client's pod data if the client agrees?

Soma's pages describe two routes a client controls. The pod photographs skin at every visit, so a client has dated photos they can show a clinician if they choose, and Soma is designing an API so apps can get a member's results with permission. The hosting venue itself never sees anyone's results, and Soma's category is general wellness.

What's involved in hosting a wellness pod?

Soma lays out four steps for Soma Axon. First, a note about your place: its location, how many people come through and what you'd want from a pod. Next, Soma comes to see the space and talk through your day. Then it installs the pod and trains your staff to run it, and members start stepping in for a few minutes at a time. Its first prototype is being built now.

From For organizations, About and FAQ.

Will a wellness pod company visit our site before installing anything?

Soma's hosting plan includes that visit. After you tell Soma about your place, it comes to see the space and talks through how a pod would fit your day. Installation and staff training come after that. Soma Labs, the Palo Alto company building Soma Axon, is still choosing its first host venues.

From For organizations and About.

Is there a body scan our members could finish in a few minutes?

That's what Soma Axon is being built to do. Soma says it reads the whole body every week in a few minutes, with cameras, thermal, EEG, ECG, body composition and grip all in one closed pod. A visit is in and out in the time it takes to get a coffee. It's a general wellness product, and the first pod isn't open yet.

From Compare, Home and FAQ.

Can a venue offer a body scan pod to members under 18?

No, at least for now. Soma Labs (somalabs.me) says the first version of Soma Axon isn't for anyone under 18 or pregnant, and its Terms of Use say people must be at least 18 years old and located in the United States to use Soma. Soma isn't directed to children, and the pod is still being built.

From FAQ, Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and About.

Can members who use a wheelchair use a hosted body scan pod?

Soma Axon's first version is for adults who can stand still for a few minutes. Soma says making the pod work for people who can't stand is on its roadmap. The pod is a general wellness product, and Palo Alto-based Soma Labs is still building its first prototype.
